With different promises from politicians during this campaign period, there are issues that I feel need to be looked into once any side is privileged to make up the next government. These issues include but are not limited to healthcare, education, religious freedom, immigration, marriage, and the environment. These need to be addressed for people to enjoy better healthcare, access quality, and affordable education, and improve their economic status in the long run. They also need to enjoy religious freedom, as this is their right embedded in the constitution. The three issues involving the government’s policy-making that I care most about are healthcare, education, and the environment.
In terms of healthcare, access to better healthcare has become increasingly expensive since the citizens have no choice for the insurance companies that are supposed to cover them. The government does not give them a choice. The amount charged by these companies is also high. The lawmakers and the next presidential administration should make sure that people are free to choose the policy that they want, and from which company. With this consideration, a sense of competition would arise, thus getting the best services at a cost.
Education is seen as a means to help students get into the job market and undertake the activities that they are equipped to undertake while in college. However, this has currently become difficult, especially when jobs are not guaranteed after college. The tuition fees in colleges are very high for many students to afford, and the student loan expensive for them. The next administration should ensure that they create more job opportunities for graduates and make sure that tuition fees are reduced, so students do not have to borrow much from the government.
The dilemma of conserving our environment and maintaining economic growth faces our country today. The current mitigation measures call for more cost, hurting the citizen’s ability to cope with the already high living standards. People are required to reduce dependence on the energy that harms the environment, yet they need it to grow that economy. The next administration and lawmakers should invest in creating environmentally friendly energy while ensuring that the economy does not slow down.
