A look into the Poem “The road not taken.”

The Poem about “The road not taken” was written in the form of a personal experience of choosing a unique path to take from two different roads. The persona had only to make one choice because he could not travel on both routes. The persona describes the way that he took as grassy hence, someone had to wear it out. Furthermore, most travelers’ road that the persona chose was not preferred. The poet talks about the diverging of two roads in a yellow wood. It was yellow wood and not green wood or wood because it was made up of leaves that had fallen from trees and had obscured the tracks. It is evident that when green leaves fall from trees, they turn their color to yellow.

The poet describes himself as one traveler because he is the only person who is meant to decide on which path to take. Moreover, the poet was independent and free-minded because his key responsibility was based on his thoughts. The poet is deluding himself. After all, he travels on a path that people do not prefer because he believes that he will make a significant difference from doing that (Frost, n.d). The poet chooses to believe that the path he took was the right one because he had to go alone. Furthermore, the poet convinced himself that he would one day tell his story when he gets old because he will be like a hero who chose to do things in unique ways compared to his counterparts. The poet is sure that the path that he chooses is the correct one.

According to the poet, when he grows old, he will tell his story with a sigh. In this context, the word sigh illustrates the contentment and relaxation that the poet will be in at his old age. The key reason why the poet will be contented while telling his story is that he is convinced that he would have taken the right path during his lifetime and gained significant achievements than his counterparts who chose to travel in a different direction. The assurance of reaping significant benefits by the poet after traveling uniquely is unequivocal. There is a repetition of the words “towards the end’ severally in the Poem (Frost, n.d). The primary reason for repeating the phrase several in the Poem is to create emphasis on a particular point of view. The poet is more focused on the outcomes that he will benefit from at the end than the enjoyment of his specific journey. The poet also repeats the pronoun “I” several because he is entirely talking about himself.

According to the poet, the difference made from traveling in a less-traveled path was that he became victorious and found interesting things that made him wish never to go back to his previous destination. In this context, the road less traveled by refers to a person acting independently and freely. The key difference of a less traveled road and other paths that people take is that it has no comfort. One has to struggle in the entire journey, but the final results are promising. When a person chooses to travel on a unique path, there is an increased chance of leaving behind significant impacts and influence.
