While growing up, I developed a particular interest in mathematics and numbers. I wanted to know to perform calculations quickly before my peers in class and when asked to provide cash balances after going shopping. My interest even further when I introduced my computer when he carried home some job assignments. I was always curious at a young age what my dad used to do behind the screens. Due to the growing interest, my dad would take me through the basic components of computer systems to understand how it worked. I would always wish to pursue a course and career in the line of computing.
When I joined high school, I developed a passion for mathematics and computer studies. I was introduced the essentials of the algorithmic problem and how they could be applied in a simple programming language. Moreover, I was exposed to simple software design and data structures.
My passion for mathematics and good command for English made my learning experiential and enjoyable. Whenever I would try with simple programming exercises, and it worked, my interest grew and wanted an extra challenge. When the schools close for the holiday recess, I assisted my parents with computing, especially those that required simple calculations.
Moreover, my father’s job provided me with an insight into what data science and computing entailed. My dad worked for a digital-based media company, and from his guidance, shaped my attitude in liking mathematics and computer studies. This way, I was able to register excellent grades in the core subjects that required mathematics, such as chemistry, physic. In particular, I score the highest grades in mathematics and computer sciences.
I always had a vision of working with one of the leading digital companies, such as Google, Oracle, and IBM. After graduating from high school, I volunteered at a local digital company that handled and analyzed data for other companies regarding consumer tastes. Choices carried out in both online and manual or regular surveys. I took part in carrying out the manual survey, data entry, extracted and filtered data from large volumes for analysis, and then visualized them.
Given the rough idea of data science, which makes use of various tools and machine learning principles, I am looking for a University that will help impart the essential skills, knowledge, and attitude for data scientist career. I happened to locate this distinguished University through a vigorous internet search. I realized that it offered the course in the region, a learning module that gears towards developing transferable and employability skills that will be useful in the workplace. The University have integrated course modules that improve communication and team working abilities of students. Besides the mode of training practical approach to studying with emphasis on research and information processing.
Moreover, the university curriculum provides for a flexible learning program which allows students to develop other areas of talents such as sports, music and performing arts. This way, I believe that joining other non-academic endeavors such as sports will help with relaxing and recovery from the tedious class environment.
I would also want to join the University because of its strong Alumnus program and activities. Here I will be able to interact with mentors and leaders who have passed the same level of academic experience while in University and already engaged in the job enviromement. I will also take advantage and forge appropriate network for personal development and career opportunities.
I chose this course and University because I want to gain relevant skills and competence necessary for career and personal development. I am looking forward with great anticipation to the opportunities and challenges that studying for a degree in data science in this University will bring if granted opportunity.
