Global Effects of Xenophobia and Racism
Xenophobia refers to dislikes and fear for individuals who are considered to be foreigners settling in a given nation (Shaib, 2019). It expresses the recognized conflict between domestic and foreign, and it substantiates in part as conflict or fighting between two groups. Racism refers to discrimination of persons according to color, the group which is marginalized or minor in the nation (Shaib, 2019). Xenophobia and racism are practiced all over the world. It is vital to address and propose the solution of racism and xenophobia since it is a problem affecting all the countries in the world.They are stern measures that can be imposed to eradicate the spread of racism and xenophobia in the world. First, each nation must acknowledge the diversity of every culture, regardless of gender and race. Respecting other country’s culture encourages harmony and unity among citizens. Cultural diversity aids to comprehend the struggles of every race and recalling that it brings humans together mostly during crisis times like corona health pandemic crisis in the whole world (Macedo, 2015).
Cultural support can be done by funding minorities’ projects, including minority groups in every aspect and standing for cultural diversity.Secondly, hate speech can fuel and increase animosity or hatred among persons. Standing out and talking against bigotry and hate speech help significantly in eliminating xenophobia and racism (Barkley, 2018). Recently, actions are taken against persons whom citizens have condemned their actions. Recent changes evidenced in the United States are the outcome of persons talking against violence and racism against black people. The trend has spread in the whole world where individuals are condemning police acting violently when dealing with a specific group of people. In conclusion, it is very significant for all countries to follow the mentioned solution above to stop the rapid spread of racism and xenophobia. Because this problem is deep-rooted in different societies in the world and the current happenings intensify the magnitude of this problem.
It is a serious topic in many nations, and most have hesitated in imposing reforms to address these problems permanently. These problems can be eliminated if people unite and face them together. Therefore, to minimize the suffering of marginalized groups and advance the human race, the world needs to join and speak in the same voice.
