For many years Kenya has been perceived as a democratic monarchy state under the watch of dynasties. The dynasties have been regarded as three leading families i.e., Kenyatta’s, Moi’s, and Odinga’s. Though it may seem like they are nemesis, they come together when their tenure appears to be under attack.
During the 2013 Kenyan general elections, the Kenyatta’s and the Odinga’s were great nemeses as both wanted to hold the leadership of Kenya. Uhuru Kenyatta made a coalition with the greatest the politician in the rift valley and Kenya in general hon William Ruto, which ensured he had the rift valley votes and thus his win. Though that coalition was anchored on bringing peace after the general election to avoid what was witnessed in the 2007 general election, recent events have revealed that the alliance was more interested in winning rather than unity.
The relationship between the president and his deputy has deteriorated of late. This relationship outlines many questions as to what may have brought this considering the public display the two leaders portrayed during their first term.
Political analysts have argued that the deputy president’s ambitions to lead this nation are a significant threat to the dynasties. The deputy president does not shy away from portraying his aspirations.
Like in the past, when the duo joined hands to compete against another dynasty Raila Odinga, this seems to be a different case as it appears to be a race between regimes against hustlers.
The deputy president portrays the Image of all the hardworking hustlers in Kenya.
Could it be that the dynasties have ganged up to stop the presidency of William Ruto-a hustler? Later in 2018, Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga met at the president’s office. The discussions
of that meeting were never revealed. Then the slogan of Uhuru is too young to retire brought up. It didn’t take long before the nation embarked on another campaign painted as BBI with speculations that its main plan is to deliver the prime minister position to Uhuru Kenyatta. The ODM team has been calling for a referendum to pass the amendments made in the BBI report, but as
it seems, Kenyans are not ready for a poll.
When the dynasties realized that they might not get the changes they want with the popular vote through the referendum, they resorted to making changes in parliament. Could they be hoping
that this legislative authority will play ball.
Being their most significant threat, William Ruto hustler resorted to disappointing all his allies who might oppose any changes that the dynasties might bring to parliament. This began with the removal of senate majority leady- kithure Kidiki and the removal of William Ruto allies in all senate committees.
This week we have seen the removal of parliament majority leader Aden Duale who was replaced by Amos Kimunya. A long time close allies of Uhuru Kenyatta.
Uhuru Kenyatta has been facing defiance from his community, where they are blaming him for all their poverty. This can be demonstrated through the latest song by a famous Kikuyu musician Muiga Njoroge where he sings about ‘Migunda Itu’ –
translated as our land. Could the dynasties be afraid that once they lose the grip of power, there might be an uprising where people will take all their wealth?
Could this be the reason they are giving their close allies all the topmost positions? Could it be that these changes are supposed to ensure that their BBI proposals pass through parliament without any opposition?
Could all these changes be propagated to ensure sons and daughters of peasants do not ascend to the highest level of authority in this nation, or do the dynasties have genuine reasons to protect them from the leadership of hustlers?
All these questions only time will answer.
