Personal experience on substance use, sexuality and body image
De Bellis & Nooner (2018), defines substance use as the use of alcohol and other drugs including inhalants, cigarettes, solvents, illegal and proscribed drugs that cause harm to the human body of the user or others and its use leads to addiction. Substance use can be a problem for any person at any age and people need to stop feeling lonely and depressed because that is the main cause of substance abuse. My personal experience with substance abuse is that have not been exposed too much to substance abuse as I have been raised with strictness and in a family that does not condone any illegal drug use. This has affected my life positively and helped me achieve more by focusing on important matters. Other disorders lead to substance use. Disorders that may be caused by long term stress or mental illness may lead to substance use. Children also exposed to drugs and substance use at a younger age are unable to developmentally and physically. Substance use affects other aspects of human beings such as body image and sexuality. According to Swami, Weis, Barron & Furnham (2017), body image it the perception of a person on their thoughts and physical self and what they feel from that perception. The feelings can be both positive or negative depending on the influence of the environmental factors. Substance users tend to have negative feelings and this affects them negatively. On my personal experience, I maintain a positive body image to keep me going and achieve more in life. The way people express themselves sexually is referred to as human sexuality and it is affected by biological, physical, social, emotional, spiritual and erotics behaviours or feeling. Sexuality has both positive and negative impact in human life and I try to maintain the impacts on a positive side in my daily life.
