Course Reflection
Introduction
The course has been very instrumental in enhancing my writing proficiency. I have gathered vital knowledge on the composition process which will be of great significance in my future pursuits. Prewriting is the first stage of the process. It is a vital step because it assists in the clarification of possible ideas and preparation of the initial draft. Various activities such as clustering, brainstorming, outlining, and freewriting are done in this stage.
Drafting is the second step. Once the initial draft is ready, particular aspects are revised and edited based on the feedback obtained from peers and the teacher. A final draft is that incorporates the various changes is prepared in the last step. There are diverse platforms where students can publish their works upon completion. They include websites, class books, and so forth.
Insights
One useful insight I acquired from my composition process concerns the credibility of sources utilized in an article or assignment. A review from my peer helped me recognize the importance of the credibility and validity of sources relied on to advance my argument. The review pointed out that sources used should be recent and should advance rational arguments backed by evidence. Having acquired this information, I revised my sources and included credible sources. I removed the outdated and unreliable sources to enhance the integrity of my composition. The use of credible sources is crucial in promoting academic and professional success because it improves the relevance, validity, and reliability of your works (Listyani, 2018).
Source integration is an additional insight that I gained. Feedback from the writing center was of great significance in the development of this insight. I was able to develop a proper comprehension of different source integration techniques. These include paraphrasing, quoting, and summarizing. I chose to make greater use of paraphrasing and summarizing in my composition. I also expounded on various phrases and passages that seemed difficult to interpret. Direct quotes were used minimally. Source integration is of significance in academic and professional works for diverse reasons. It boosts the reliability of arguments advanced and informs readers on where to obtain data on your subject matter (Yeung, 2015). It also recognizes opinions and explanations presented by others on the topic.
Obstacles
I encountered various challenges during the composition process. They include difficulties in developing ideas, backing ideas with credible evidence, proper organization of ideas, use of passive voice, among others. The major challenge I faced was in coordinating the ideas generated to prepare a useful and meaningful composition. I had to write several drafts to come up with a logical composition. The ideas in the initial draft were shallow and not well connected.
A peer reviewed one of my drafts and advised me to make various improvements to better the flow and coherence of my composition. I worked on transitions between sentences and connected the various paragraphs appropriately. My friends also provided their ideas and I was eventually able to develop a reasoned composition. Given the knowledge obtained on composition writing so far, I would approach this challenge differently. I would do a thorough prewriting and elaborately plan the ideas developed to ensure that they are rational.
Conclusion
Writing is a vital skill that should be appropriately developed. The composition process various stages that are all of importance. The credibility of sources and source integration are some of the key insights I gained from my composition process. I faced various challenges during the process but I managed to overcome them.
