Take Away
From the nursing assignment and theory, I learned the importance of promoting good health among the community and ensuring that the customer needs are satisfied. This is related to Pender’s health promotion model (HPM), which focus on changing unhealthy behaviors and promote healthy ones in order to enhance the health of the patient. Just like the theory and nursing assignments, HPM focuses on improving the health and experience of the patient by satisfying his or her needs.
Lesson from Weekly Assignments
The interdisciplinary team is essential in ensuring that various activities in healthcare settings are successful. A strong team is made up of members from multiple disciplines, and they can pool their competencies and knowledge and come up with a successful team. The decision-making process is enhanced when an interdisciplinary team is involved as they provide their insights about various issues before coming up with a common decision. Solving many issues and conflicts in an interdisciplinary team is easy as members have different problem-solving skills.
During my clinical, the most outstanding thing is the needs of the various patients in healthcare settings. I understood that the patients have different needs, and the nurses must understand that the different patients have their special needs.
Before the readings, I felt that healthcare is like any other profession, requiring regular efforts. However, this view changed during and after the readings, after finding out that the health profession requires dedication and passion for meeting the needs of the patients. My assumptions about the amount of time and energy needed for this profession changed because I discovered that the nurses must dedicate their time and energy to serving the clients. After going through the readings, I strengthened my professional values and beliefs because I acquired new insights and knowledge about community service.
Application
Because of learning, I will act differently during my practice to satisfy the needs of the patients. As a health provider, there is a need to embrace values, best practices, and hard work to alleviate the suffering of the patients. In order to improve professionally, I will take part in community work to improve my skills in serving the community. I will join charitable organizations to acquire more skills related to public health. For instance, working in nursing homes will provide experience and knowledge that are important in improving my professional skills.
