Curfew
In the given scenario, a curfew has been imposed to reduce the level of youth crime in the local jurisdiction. Such a curfew would reduce crime because there would be the cessation of movement during the night, meaning that people will be at homes, and this would reduce the crime level. Assessing the curfew’s effectiveness is essential to determine whether it may help reduce the level of crime in the community. The type of evaluation that I would use to achieve this goal is outcome evaluation. The technique only looks at the intended outcome and whether it is made through the changes that have been developed (Packer, 2019). The method can be applied by assessing the level of crime before and after the curfew imposition. Any positive change through reducing the crime rate would indicate that the curfew has been effective or a success.
The collection of data about criminal activities in the neighborhood may also be critical in assessing the impacts of the curfew that is to be imposed. One of the data that need to be evaluated is the number of recorded criminal cases. It is expected that with the curfew in place, very few criminal cases will be reported to the authorities since everyone is likely to be at home during the hours of the curfew. Another piece of data that could be collected is past information about the crime before the curfew has been imposed. The aim of the curfew is to reduce the level of crime. With this in mind, the two data sets need to be compared to assess whether the curfew has been active at addressing the crime rate at the local level. Without the use of data, it is not possible to determine whether the curfew has been keen on addressing the crime rate issue.
It would also be imperative to assess the degree to which the curfew has been implemented. Successful implementation of a curfew is not always easy. People are bound to disobey the curfew or not observe the curfew hours as expected. Law enforcement authorities are charged with the responsibility of enforcing the curfew. Imposing it must happen without any instances of police brutality, as this would bring more significant issues for various police departments. The enforcement of the curfew should thereby be undertaken without causing any harm to the residents.
