The Little Prince
Unit 3
Antoine de Saint-Exupery portrayed the theme of conflict in his book The Little Prince. The conflict arises when the little prince leaves his planet searching for answers about relationships and how the worldview. He has the notion that his love’s repulsive behavior is the reason why she rejects him. Now that he is stranded in an alien planet (Earth), he is worried that his lover is left all by herself defenseless and fragile. There is an overarching conflict of his desire to go back to her. There is also a conflict between the heart and the eyes. The fox states that to see what is beautiful in life, one must look through the eyes because sometimes eyes can lie (Saint-Exupery 24). The fox also argues that love can overwhelm existentialism. Here we see the conflict that occurs between love and the notion of existentialism.
The hero’s call happens when the protagonist of a story receives a call, and he or she has to go on an adventure, and returns from the experience changed person. The story of Jonah is found in the Hebrew Bible. It tells the story of a Hebrew prophet named Jonah. God sends Jonah to go to the people Nineveh and prophesy about the destruction of the city because of their sinful ways. Jonah being afraid, tries to evade God’s mission and decides to sail to Jaffa. While in the ship, they come across a massive storm, the sailors realizing that it wasn’t an ordinary storm and that Jonah was the cause they decided to throw him overboard where he is swallowed by a big fish and vomits him out in Nineveh. Jonah repented his rebellion and chose to deliver God’s message and become a new man. Jonah turns out to be a hero of this story after receiving the call from God. He gives the message to the people of Nineveh and realizing their sins they repent, and God spared them. Jonah returns home a hero and a changed man.
The setting of a book describes the book’s the place (Geographical location) and the time in which the whole story took place. It describes the mood and the background of the story. The story of Jonah happened between the 9th and the 8th BCE. At this time, civilization was not advanced; the primary means of transport was sailing. At this time, it is believed that God was close to his people, and he communicated directly to Jonah. People were so religious at that time, and that’s why they thought if they sacrificed Jonah, God would be appeased.
A protagonist is a significant character in a story. In project B, I told a love story about how my parents met. The whole story was based on both my father and my mother, how they risked it all to be together. They are the main characters of the story. The story is revolved around the two, how they met, what they go through, and how they end up together.
As stated earlier, the hero’s call is when the hero or heroes of a story receives a request which changes their lives and the lives of those around him completely. In my story, it is evident that both my parents are the heroes. Their love for each other is the call that changes their lives. They used to live a normal life before they met just like any other heroes in a story. They heed to the call of love and goes through difficult times, and at the end of the story, they emerged heroes of their lives. They proved how love could conquer all, and at the end of the story, they live happily with their lives completely changed.
As mentioned above, the setting of a book dictates its geographical location and the place where the story took place. The love story of my parents happened in the 1970s where cultural practices and beliefs bloomed. This is why there were a lot of arranged marriages, and it was very rare for a marriage to be based on love, the main reason why my parents had a difficult time going against the norms.
