General Motors
Introduction
The chosen company is General Motors, which is a well-known entity in the automotive industry. For years, the company has been involved in the development of conventional cars that rely on fossil fuels. Au contraire, the firm joined the electric vehicle market in 2010, which was aimed at improving its sales through the expansion of the target market as well as preserving the environment (Poczter & Jankovic, 2014). Being a novel concept, the electric vehicles did not quite sell as required, with the firm developing a differentiation strategy to gain a competitive edge over their rivals (Rafinejad, 2013).
The strategy actively involves the firm developing internal technologies, initiation of direct technology acquisitions from competitors as well as the implementation of licensing strategies with other entities. The capstone project will determine the efficacy of this strategy under the auspice of the thesis that internal development will cut down on cost and provide GM with the requisite power over customers and suppliers. This will, in turn, increase demand for their vehicles and improve the company’s bottom line.
Work Completed
The development of this capstone was quite arduous, although I managed to complete the draft, which comprised of the introduction, industry analysis, competitor analysis, strategy proposition, and conclusion. Each of the sections were backed by the necessary data and statistics derived from various works of erudition. I also ensured that the works were cited in the reference section.
Work Missed
The only work I intended to complete was the utilization of graphs and figures in my paper. I realized that the use of both would help improve the aesthetic eminence of my work. I was, however, at odds with using them because of the page limits provided by the course with regards to the draft. With confirmation from the lecturer, conversely, I can use the figures to improve my work prior to submission.
Work to Complete
The first work to complete is the written report, which is a formal document developed for the project stakeholders. The length and structure of the paper will vary based on the recommendations or comments offered by the lecturer. I am, however, cognizant of the fact that the document need not exceed 40 pages in length.
The second work to complete is the oral presentation, which will be created in tandem with a PowerPoint presentation next week. The presentation will contain slides with notes that guide me during the presentation process. Furthermore, I will record the audio through Kaltura media and Adobe Connect, after which I will upload them into the course room for review by my lecturer. I will ascertain that the presentation has at least 20 slides and lasts for 10 minutes at most.
Conclusion
In due summation, my project is going on well, even though I have been forced to make a select number of changes in various areas. The changes have allowed me to integrate information from divergent disciplines and perspectives for improved generalizability of the paper. I have thus far been able to apply foundational knowledge, which has, in turn, accorded me with an insight into technology, processes, and business systems of the case firm.
